Rasam Powder

Rasam is a south indian dish alternatively called as charu, chaaru, saaru etc. It is a spicy-sweet-sour, usually prepared with garlic, black pepper, chili pepper, cumin, tomato, and other spices as seasonings, using tamarind.

It is eaten with rice and is always a part of main course in a traditional South Indian meal.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup Coriander seeds
  • 1/2 cup Toor Dal / Arhar Dal
  • 1/4 cup Black Pepper
  • 1/4 cup Cumin Seeds

Instructions
 

  • Roast all the ingredients in a pan with low to medium flame. Keep stirring continuously till you smell nice aroma it may take 5 to 10 min or dry it in sun for 2 hrs.
  • Add all the ingredients to the grinder and make a powder.

Notes

You can add one or two Red chilies, one or two Turmeric sticks and Hing (Asafoetida).
I have not used these in Rasam powder because I use these as tempering add to the Rasam.
